ASA
manages the Sikh Centre located in Glenwood. The main focus is
to serve the spiritual, religious, cultural and social needs of
the Sikh Community and establish charitable and welfare programs
for the community, including:
-
Programs
to promote an understanding of the Sikh philosophy, religion
and culture, and to provide a common meeting ground for the
exchange ideas with other community groups to promote interfaith
dialogue, tolerance and harmony.
- Facilities
to cater for the Religious and Spiritual needs of the Sikh Community
(both in happy and unfortunate circumstances, e.g., Births, Deaths
and Marriages).
-
Provision
of free service for the needy, for example:
o Accommodation
o Meals
o Language school
o Counselling
o Meditation facilities
-
Donations
to Australian Charities and causes.
-
Programs
to relieve distress, sickness and suffering from the disadvantaged
in necessitous circumstances.
-
Sports
and recreational activities connected with mental, spiritual,
physical and social welfare of the community.
It
is worth mentioning that all above activities and programs wouldn't
be possible without the strong community support and the tireless
effort of countless volunteers. These volunteers come from many
backgrounds, bringing many skills and working together as a team
to deliver a range of services. Even the management of ASA consists
of proactive individuals who come from a variety of backgrounds
and who work without remuneration.
The
only aim being NISHKAM SEWA (Voluntary Community Service
without desire of any reward) for the community development. This
sentiment is also one of the basic principles of the Sikh Philosophy.
ASA
thanks all volunteers for their continuing support and efforts -
you are the true unsung stars!
